Ju Jitsu

What do we train

Our style of Japanese jiu-jitsu incorporates a repertoire of traditional throws, locks and strikes applied to self-defence situations. On the mat we practice these from a wide range of attacks, including but not limited to single strikes, boxing attacks, and an array of weapons and scenarios. Our goal is to teach students this enduring martial art while applying the varying techniques to modern day self-defence situations. Jiu-jitsu is progressive martial art with its techniques relying on skill and speed rather than strength or size. Because of this, people of all shapes and sizes can train and develop their skills with us on the mat.

Jiu-jitsu is not only a progressive and highly enjoyable martial art but also an engaging sport for gaining fitness and confidence. Developing your skills on the mat not only improves your self-defence capabilities, but also improves confidence, fitness and flexibility. Jiu-jitsu is also a great opportunity to meet fellow students and socialise with others interested in martial arts and self-defence. Many jitsuka who have trained on the mat for years have greatly enjoyed the journey, making long lasting friendships and undergoing personal development that has benefitted them enormously.

Our style is taught nationally, with dozens of clubs scattered all across the UK and others spread across several continents. Jiu-jitsu provides the opportunity to train at national events held in the UK, as well as international events hosted by clubs overseas.

You don’t need to have done any martial arts before or be fit to begin training. And if you have experience in martial arts, it may help you pick up techniques more quickly, but it’s by no means required. For your first session, all you need to do is come in comfortable sports/gym wear (or a gi if you have one). Everyone is welcome to attend and give our style a go!
