"Almost a quarter of students already run their own business or entrepreneurial venture"

That's the figure quoted in a BBC article on student entrepreneurship yesterday.

The article, which you can read here, charts the rise of students engaging in business activities during their time at university in addition to focussing on their degree studies.

Here at Cardiff Met, the SU is commited to promoting student entreprenuership. For more information on getting involved with entrepreneurial activities and start-up events, keep an eye out for the upcoming I-CANS challenge (more information here).

Closer Partnership

The SU are also looking forward to moving in to their new offices at the Llandaff Campus in the new year, which will allow for closer co-operation with the Cardiff Met Centre for Student Entrepreneurship. The Centre for Student Entrepreneurship is currently located in the School of Management but the new setup alongside the SU will allow for working much closer with the SU and UMAX in particular.

The services that UMAX offer include employability and CV workshops, in addition to services aimed at helping budding entrepreneurs. The new offices will create an environment where both services can collaborate and benefit eachother, utlimately offering better entrepreneurship opportuinities for all students at Cardiff Met.

Cardiff Met Award

Also run by the UMAX service at the SU is the Cardiff Met Award, which is an initative aimed at increasing student employability upon graduating. Students undertaking the award complete workshops, work experience placements and gain a variety of skills preparing them for the world of work after graduating.

This year, the Cardiff Met Award is also incorporating an Enterprise and Entrepreneurship element for the first time. More details about this element of the award is available over at the UMAX pages here.
