As we celebrate International Women's Day, I reflect on my role as SU Vice President. The campaign theme for International Women's Day 2024 is Inspire Inclusion. I've been blessed to witness its impact first hand.

When I first stepped into my role, I felt a mix of excitement and nervousness. Coming from a humble background in India without the privileges of a good accent, I wasn't sure how I'd navigate the complexities of leadership. However, amidst the uncertainty, I was met with a supportive environment within our Students’ Union, one that prioritizes equality and inclusion. It’s been always at the forefront of championing diversity and equity, ensuring that opportunities are accessible to all, regardless of gender, race, or background. From initiatives like the free period dignity campaign to inclusive hiring practices, our commitment to inclusivity is evident in every aspect of our work.
Being a female sabbatical officer puts me at the forefront of leadership, and that's something I wouldn't take for granted. Here at Cardiff Met, women are demolishing leadership barriers. Seeing so many strong women lead has completely reshaped how I view female leadership. It's been an incredible experience – I've learned a ton from them, not just about leadership in general, but also about the unique challenges and achievements women face in leadership roles.
I was inspired by the SU President, Natalia-Mia Roach, who had previously been the SU Vice President. Natalia shared her invaluable experience, guiding me on navigating discussions as a woman in leadership. Throughout my first term, she offered unwavering support, often reminding me with a reassuring "you got this - Rew", which charged my confidence and determination. This experience underscores the significance of women supporting and uplifting each other in their respective roles and personal development journeys. By fostering a culture of mutual assistance and encouragement, we amplify our collective voices and pave the way for greater inclusivity and empowerment within our spheres of influence.
On this Day, together, let us continue #InspireInclusion, amplifying diverse voices and uplifting the principles of equality and inclusion, particularly those from marginalized communities, and work towards a future where everyone has equal opportunities to thrive.
