Working with Cardiff Digs, we inform you how household waste should be disposed and avoiding a £75 fine
When leaving home for the first time, you may encounter many issues that you have never thought about before. In Cardiff, disposing of your household waste correctly can help the environment and save you from getting any pesky fines!
Working together with the council and your Students’ Union, you can avoid a £75 fine that 3 houses were issued with last week alone in Cathays and Plasnewydd.
Important points to note are:
-
Recycling bags cannot go in green bins; this is for garden waste only.
-
All black bags must fit inside wheeled bins. Residents are provided with free recycling bags and food waste caddies so they can recycle as much of their waste as possible. There should not be a need for extra bags of general waste.
-
Recycling bags are available at our Students’ Union.
-
Bags and/or bins must go on the pavement.
-
Register to the free ‘Tidy Text’ service by texting ‘Tidy` + your house number and postcode to 60066. This easy to use service sends text messages to remind you when to put your recycling and waste out for collection.
-
Waste Education and Enforcement Officers only resort to fixed penalty notices when residents have been educated and advised on two separate occasions.
