During the SU Speak Week, many students raised concerns about bus services, including timetable issues and affordability. Feedback was also shared by course reps, and students to elected officers, highlighting the need for improvements in routes and pricing.
Many students expressed difficulties in commuting, particularly regarding the M1 timetable, lack of buses from town and the cost of travel. Our goal was to address these concerns and make travel more accessible for all Cardiff Met students.

We have had over 300 Speak Week responses on the transport, below are some of the students' feedback:
"We want more reliable buses."
"We want better buses."
"Buses that run through the city centre that are specifically for CMet. The buses serving the uni (63, 25, 122) are irregular and often full to capacity. They are dangerously full at times."
"Subsidised bus passes."
"I would like to see a consistent offering of the Met Rider pass for students who are older than 22 and for Term 2."
"Met 1 rider more often, so it's easier to get to Cyncoed for sport."
"Better transport to the city centre from Llandaff campus"
Working closely with the University’s commercial team, we pushed for improvements based on student feedback, and as a result:
- Changes were made to the M1 timetable last semester.
- Extra morning buses were added between the City Centre and Llandaff (routes 25 and 63), and additional capacity was added to route 52 between the City Centre and Cyncoed.
- We secured subsidised bus passes for Jan cohorts (valid from 1st Feb to 30th June 2025), offering over 50% discounts through a partnership with Cardiff Bus and the My Travel Pass scheme:
£110 for students aged 16 - 20 (with a My Travel Pass)
£165 for students aged 21 and over
Valid for unlimited travel on all Cardiff Bus routes, including Newport and Barry, and the dedicated Met Rider route.
