Psychology student Claire tells us why she thinks it's important to nominate a member of teaching staff for a Student Led Teaching Fellowship
Hello,
Once again, the Student Led Teaching Fellowships are upon us and as students it is our responsibility to dish them out. From lending an ear, to going back over an assignment to tell you how to improve, our lecturers and tutors frequently put themselves out to help us. The SLTF's are a way to give back to your lecturers with a fellowship being the highest accolade that can be given out!
Here are my 5 reasons I believe you should nominate a lecturer for a Student Led Teaching Fellowship:
-
Excellent feedback for teaching staff
How can they ever know what we want if we never reward them for doing the right things? We are always quick to moan about a mark or bad feedback, but few take the time to appreciate the hard work and care our lecturers put in for us and our education.
-
Promotes a high teaching standard
With a fellowship being the highest accolade that a lecturer can be awarded, many of the teaching staff hope to receive one. When a fellowship is awarded, that person’s best practises are shared and this helps other teaching staff to implement these practices across the board.
-
Gives you a voice
This is your chance to give your positive opinion, I mean, how many times have you thanked a member of the teaching staff for their hard work? The SLTF gives you the chance to reward a tutor or lecturer who has really out done themselves
-
Allows you to reflect on the positive
Because your nomination is all about the many positive and beneficial things that your tutor or lecturer has done for you, it makes you re-live that moment when you gave encouragement or boosted your self-confidence. Don’t spend all your time thinking about the bad, take 10 minutes and focus on the good and great things they have done for you and how that made you feel.
-
A Big Fat Thank you
Finally a nomination for a fellowship is a huge deal and teaching staff really do appreciate it, especially because it is from us, the students. Isn’t a nomination for a fellowship the best way to say thank you for their hard work and care? Wouldn’t you like that? Well so would they, they are human too after all!
So there you have it, my 5 reasons to nominate your fave member of the teaching staff, whether they have sat with you while you cried your heart out, have explained the same thing 10 times without getting mad or given you a fantastic opportunity for the future.
Show your appreciation and nominate them for a Student Led Teaching Fellowship!
Don’t forget that nominations close on the 28th February 2014 so get nominating!!
