An update from our Athletics Scholars and their Winter season.
The Athletic Union provides scholarships for students that strive for excellence in their sports. This year athletics have 10 students with scholarships. Below is an update of their Winter season.
Mica Moore:
Personal best of 7.49 making it to the final of the UK Champs.
Welsh silver medal, BUCS 200m Bronze, BUCS relay silver, raced at the Birmingham Grand Prix
Dewi Hammond:
Personal best of 6.70 (in his first race).
Sam Gordon:
Personal best of 6.73. Welsh Champion. UK champs finalist.
Morgan Jones:
Personal best of 5.78 setting a new British record in his F47 class!
Added 50cm to his triple jump PB (now 12.11) and showed some excellent consistency.
Becca Chapman:
BUCS Gold in the long jump, silver in the relay, and BUCS finalist in the 60m…. and yesterday set a new personal best and new Cardiff Met Indoor Record of 6.23!
Josh Griffiths:
Some solid performances in the cross country and some strong running at BUCS indoors in a very competitive field (impressive as a 10K specialist)
Owen Smith:
Set a new OUTRIGHT PB (not easy over 400m) of 47.51 before picking up a hamstring problem. Some excellent progress and a well-managed injury.
Joe Reid:
BUCS bronze medal, UK U20 finalist, demonstrating maturing and determination despite being the youngest scholar in the group.
Jonathan Hopkins:
Cardiff Met’s highest finishing athlete at the BUCS cross country. BUCS Bronze medal - outstanding on the flat, we look forward to seeing him in the chase in the summer!
