This week we caught up with Zoe, one of our Triathlon Scholars.
Name: Zoe Thomas
Age: 21
Sport: Triathlon
Achievements: 6th British Triathlon Super Series 2014, 7th in British Triathlon Championships Olympic and Sprint Distance 2014
What is an average week like for you in terms of university, training and any other commitments?
I arrive at campus 6:30am for swimming with the triathlon performance squad, four or five weekday mornings per week. I will cycle and run 3 to four times per week each and complete daily strength and conditioning sessions. With third year work commitments ramping up I am spending most of my time between lectures in the library so am grateful to training for giving me a chance to have breaks outdoors, even if Cardiff weather isn’t always the most desirable!
What is your best/most memorable sporting achievement and why?
Finishing 7th in the 2014 British Sprint Triathlon Championships (8th overall in TriLiverpool). I completed the swim and bike legs of the race alongside the 2014 World Triathlon Champion, Gwen Jorgensen which was an incredible experience.
How is your season going and what are your aims for 2015?
My 2015 season won’t start properly until March/April as Triathlon is a summer sport, but so far training is going great. I have just returned from 11 days of training in Lanzarote where I was mingling with some world class triathletes.
