This Week We Caught Up With The Gymnastics Team.
This week we caught up with the Gymnastics Team, the club captain Laura Dalton talks about Gymnastics recent performances, the future of Gymnastics and what its like to be part of the Gymnastics Team.
Can you tell us about your most recent competition?
“The University of Birmingham hosted a friendly Gymnastics Open competition in their own Gymnasium, which allowed gymnasts of all abilities and experience to have a go at competitive gymnastics before the main BUCS competition in February. It’s a relaxed competition which helps introduce people back into the sport, new and old.”
How did you get on?
“It went incredibly well for Cardiff Met gymnastics, after having a few sparse years of team members we were able to conjure up enough gymnasts to be able to participate in each category. Their commitment and effort put into training showed in their performances which I hope will continue for our BUCS competition.”
When is your next competition?
“As far as I am aware, our next competition is BUCS in the middle of February. We travel to Rushmoore Gymnastics Academy in Aldershot for the weekend where the Boys compete on Day 1 and the Girls on Day 2.”
What’s it like to be part of the gymnastics team?
“We are a very close-knit team and we fully support one another in everything we do. Because we do not have an official coach, we all use our gymnastics history and coaching knowledge to help pull the team together for competitions.”
What would you like to see happen for gymnastics in the future?
“With the amount of hours, and effort put into our club it would be great to have people recognise us as a serious sport and that we have the ability to become even better over the next coming years. We would love to help boost Cardiff Met’s reputation of Sporting excellence and also as a leading University for student Sport in the UK and this can be done by acknowledging those sports that sometimes get forgotten about.”
How can you get involved with Gymnastics?
“For anyone who hopes to get into the sport we welcome any experience or ability, male or female who share the same passion for the sport as we do. For males especially, there seems to be a lot of stigma attached to participating in the sport, but there shouldn’t be. It’s great for fitness and physique, and you get to be a part of a fun and sociable team who value socials just as much as training.”
