It is often said that Rugby is the gentleman’s sport. Well it seems Cardiff Mets Men’s Football team have put that saying to bed as they have just been awarded with the best disciplinary record in the three divisions of the Welsh Football league.

The stats are taken from the FAW fair play table who take into account the number of bookings and sending offs by each club in the Senior Football League throughout Wales.

Results are scored by the least amount of points given. Cardiff Met won with just 74 points which was apparently significantly lower than the rest of the teams in the league.

As a reward the good people at Nathaniel Cars have decided to present Cardiff Met Football team with the very generous prize of a brand new mini-bus. Something will make a massive difference to team and come in very handy for away games. No more breaking down on the side of the road for these lads.

Speaking to the director of football at Cardiff Met Christian Edwards he filled us in on the secret to their success "the players were asked to respect the name of the university each time we played. We agreed that we would all, including the coaching staff, abide by this. This included all players paying the necessary fines for their own actions. So every time they were booked for dissent they paid the fine out of their own pocket. £14 is a lot to a student, so the more they were booked the less money they had. It seemed to work."

This is a great achievement for the football team as they are not just been congratulated for being good athletes they are being rewarded for having good character and showing fine sportsmanship, something which can lack all too often within this sport and indeed others.

Cardiff Met students should be proud that their football team have been representing the University with such honour and integrity. Well done lads..!!
