With new scoreboards across Cyncoed Campus this week to display the Archers results it was an important week to get some wins. One of the new boards is on the Hockey Astro where all 3 Men’s Hockey teams had fixtures. The 3rd team started off the day with an early fixture against Cardiff Uni 5th’s, goals from Sam Wooding and George Chaffeur secured a 2-2 draw keeping them top of the table. Next up was the 2nd team who faced Bristol and provided a ‘spartan like victory’ with brilliant tactical changes from coach Iuean Davies and goals from Jack Doodson and Mike Salmon resulting in a 2-0 victory. The 1st team finished off the days games on the Astro with a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Bath 1st’s.
The Hockey Women 1st team travelled to Southampton to take a 6-1 win, while the 2nd’s claimed a 7-0 victory away to Gloucestershire with goals from Nia Morgans, Paige Walters, Elin Owen and a first Archer goal for Naomi Davies. The 3rd’s were on the end of an unfortunate 8-0 loss away to Cardiff Uni.
Women’s Rugby enjoyed wins for both their 1st and 2nd teams this week. The 1st team took the trip to Oxford and came back with an 88-0 win, with a solid 40 minutes for returning long term injured Hooker Kitty Newton after 10 months out. Meanwhile the 2nd team put in a great performance to beat top of the table Bristol 1st team 24-19.
Men’s Rugby took 3 wins from their 5 teams in action. The 1st team setting the standard with a 21-16 win over Bristol, and the 4th team beating Swansea 4th’s 40-5. The evening fixture saw the 2nd team face St Mary’s under the floodlights of Rugby Pitch 1, where they stormed to a 92-10 victory. The 3rd and 5th team lost 41-21 and 29-15 respectively.
Both Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse were on the road to Aberystwyth looking for 2 wins in their final fixtures before Christmas. Great performances from both teams saw them bring home the 6 points with the Women winning 17-7 and the Men 14-0. On the Tennis Courts Men’s 2’s and 3rd’s both beat Gloucestershire 1st and 2nd team, 12-0 and 10-2. The Men’s and Women’s 1st team both suffered 8-4 defeats to Exeter and the Women’s 2nd’s drew 6-6 to Gloucestershire also.
Netball 1st team had an impressive victory to Bath 1st team in the Sports Hall, winning 71-52. The 2nd team lost by just 2 points to Gloucestershire (46-48) but victories for the 3rd’s 4th’s and 5th’s saw a good 4 wins from 5 for the ladies in maroon. Men's Football 1st beat Swansea 1st 3-0 at home, the 3rd team won 6-2 away against Swansea also, while the 4th and 5th team's lost 2-0 and 1-0 respectively.
Women’s Football 2nd team came back from a goal behind to win 2-1 against a spirited Bristol with the winning goal coming from a brilliant Stacey Ayling through ball and a stunning finish from Rosie Rushin. Coach Abby Picton deserving some credit after both goals came from substitutes. The 1st team hoping to make it to Christmas unbeaten, made it 7 wins from 7 in BUCS with a 7-2 win over Bath 1st team, 3 goals from scholar Emily Brown and 2 from winger Ellie Sargent.
