This weekend saw the Archers compete in the National Cup Final for a second year in a row. They faced Sevenoaks Suns in
the final which took place at the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield on Sunday. After the dissapointment of last year where they lost the game on the buzzer, the Archers were looking for retribution this year. They came out on top winning 74-63 after great performances from scholars Jess Jenkins with 22 points and Judit Fritz with 24 points who was also awarded the MVP (most valuable player). Also on the scoresheet was our very own AU Officer, Kate Butters with 13 points and 8 rebounds.
The win meant the Archers put their name on the trophy for the first time in the clubs history; long standing club member Sarah Wagstaff expressed the clubs joy by saying “We have so many different people who support us and so this really is a day for the entire Archers’ family, we'd like to thank Cardiff Met Sport and the Student Union for all the help they've given”.
Wagstaff went on to add “This wasn’t only about the senior team, but also our junior teams too and everyone involved with our club. It felt great to finally be on the winning side and especially after losing to a buzzer beater last year.”
The Archers now look to continue competing in the WBBL league with two home games this weekend (Saturday 31st Jan and Sunday 1st Feb) against Northumbria and Nottingham respectively.
