£10,000.00 - £20,000.00 - Postgraduate part-time study course fees for two years (2015-17) - A £10,000 annual bursary (£20,000 over 2-years) - Funding for professional development opportunities including NGB Coaching Courses

Hours

20.00 The successful candidate will be expected to work on a year round, part time basis, 20 hours per week. They will be based on the Cyncoed Campus.

Details

Cardiff Metropolitan University is seeking to recruit a graduate with experience in tennis development to work and study at the University for a two-year period.  This is an opportunity to combine part-time postgraduate study, tennis coaching and development work at a leading higher education sport institution.

The opportunity exists for a suitably experienced candidate to contribute to the development of tennis-based activity at Cardiff Met, including participation, performance squad programmes, junior coaching and out-reach work within schools. The post holder will work closely with the Athletic Union, Sport Facilities Department, Academic staff and the Head Tennis Coach.

The candidate is likely to have achieved / or be predicted to achieve a UK first class or upper second class honours degree and have some tennis coaching experience.  The successful candidate will be expected to work on a year round, part time basis, 20 hours per week.  They will be based on the Cyncoed Campus.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Increasing the level of student participation at Cardiff Met through a variety of means.  Developing and implementing a system to monitor the levels of participation, competition and retention.
  • Developing competitive opportunities for all levels of player.
  • Developing the Coach Education and Training programme for students.  This will include coaching awards, UKCC1 and 2, working in schools and organising umpiring and competition organiser courses.
  • Establishing and developing a tennis volunteer and assisting programme.
  • Competing for the University in the BUCS competition and assisting with team training as appropriate.
  • Establishing events that would include other universities.
  • Assisting with the publicity of the student programme internally and externally, and the recruitment of students to the tennis teams and tennis club

Essential Criteria:

  •     Good honours degree (2:1 or above).
  •     An understanding of sports development and coaching.
  •     Flexible approach to work.
  •     Good oral and written communication skills.
  •     Approachable manner.
  •     Motivated and enthusiastic.
  •     Ability to combine work with study.
  •     Ability to work in a team.

Desirable Criteria:

 

  • LTA licensed Coach
  • First Aid qualification.
  • A good knowledge of the structure of tennis in the UK.
  • Coaching experience.
  • Volunteering experience.
  • LTA rating 4.2 or better
  • IT literate.
  • Knowledge of health and safety.
