Are you a proactive and passionate student with an interest in the environment and sustainability? Do you want to positively challenge the SU and University to do more for the environment? The environment is a key area of focus for both the SU and University and we’re looking for a SU Environmental Part-Time Officer to develop and lead on new ideas, projects and activism within the SU for the 2023/24 academic year. In this role, you will work closely with other Part-Time Officers, School Reps and the full-time elected student officer team.
The SU Environmental Part-Time Officer will help us to drive change and implement new initiatives as part of the SU Part-Time Officer team who look to create a better Cardiff Met for all students. You will draw on your own interests and knowledge to play a key part in shaping the important changes being made in this area and use student feedback to create campaigns and initiatives for students relating to the environment and sustainability.
Please note the successful candidate will not hold employee status with the Students' Union but will receive a monthly bursary of £100 between September and June as reward for undertaking this representative position.
The SU Environmental Part-Time Officer will explore the Students’ Union environmental footprint and work on how the SU can become more sustainable, ensuring that any initiatives that are implemented have longevity. You will support the University with their sustainability work alongside the Sustainability Engagement Manager at Cardiff Metropolitan University and use student feedback to create campaigns and initiatives for students relating to the environment and sustainability. You will be part of the SU Part-Time Officer team reporting to the SU President-Affairs & Community and working closely with the nominated SU Liaison and University Liaison.
Responsibilities:

You will play a key role in the Students’ Unions work around the environment and sustainability, developing and leading on projects and campaigns to engage other students and to actively challenge the SU and University on environmental issues

Represent the SU at relevant meetings and committees

By building on positive working relationships with University departments you will support University initiatives and explore opportunities to work together on campaigns and initiatives

Form positive working relationships with student representatives making effective use of the SU Rep structure to ensure student views are represented and utilised in project work and activism

Help the SU lead on our Fairtrade activity
