The Role
Cardiff Met SU’s Student Representation Structure aims to ensure that every student’s voice is effectively represented. Our Rep Structure is founded in the belief that students should be active partners in their education, taking ownership of their learning and enhancing their overall student experience.
The Students’ Union School Rep role is your opportunity to be the figurehead student for your Academic School and play a key part in enhancing the student experience!
We are looking for a:
- Cardiff School of Art and Design SU School Rep
- Cardiff School of Education and Social Policy SU School Rep
- Cardiff School of Management SU School Rep
- Cardiff School of Sport and Health Sciences SU School Rep (Cyncoed)
- Cardiff School of Sport and Health Sciences SU School Rep (Llandaff)
- Cardiff School of Technologies SU School Rep
What does a SU School Rep do?
- Represent the views of students within your Academic School and work with SU Course Reps, SU Lead Reps and staff to develop the school and student experience
- Responsible for recruiting and managing the SU Representation Structure within your Academic School
- Attend Academic School and University level meetings
- Ensure that the feedback loop is closed by communicating responses/actions back to students on matters raised during meetings
- Work closely with the SU student leadership team (SU President, SU Vice President, SU School Reps and SU Part-Time Officers) to create positive, student-led change
- Become a Trustee of the Students’ Union making key decisions on the future of the SU
Time Commitment
- The time commitments for the SU School Rep role vary depending on the time of year and the size of your Academic School.
- SU School Reps are expected to attend a summer training week, regular University and SU meetings, SU Board of Trustee meetings and remain on top of their emails.
Skills and attributes
- There are no essential skills or attributes required for this role as training and support are provided throughout. However, the following non-exhaustive list may help you during the role:
- Ability and willingness to communicate with staff and students through a range of methods
- Be able to work as part of a team
- Understand the importance of working and representing the views of others fairly, respectfully and without bias
- Able to raise concerns, on behalf of others, identifying any common themes and possible solutions
- An interest in developing your leadership skills
- The ability to manage your own time and workload and to use your own initiative
- An understanding of the SU, the SU Representation structure and student voice at Cardiff Met
