Current Volunteering Opportunities

Charity Shop Assistants

We’re looking for enthusiastic and reliable retail volunteers to help support our wonderful charity shops. Our shops raise vital funds to enable us to support those in the local community living with a life limiting illness and their families.

Volunteers take part in a range of tasks such as sorting donations, pricing and providing excellent customer service. By volunteering in our shops, you’ll be making a huge different and become part of a friendly, welcoming team. You’ll also be giving something back to your community. We currently have a range of opportunities available at our store in Ely, Rhiwbina, Penarth, Llanishen and Whitchurch.

Peter, our Retail Volunteer Team Leader says:

“I love working in the shop with the other volunteers and especially love hearing the kind comments customer’s make about how the hospice has given both practical and emotional support, and it’s obvious how very important that was to patients and their families at possibly the worst time of their lives.”

Liz, one of our wonderful Retail Volunteers explains:

“As a volunteer, it gives me a great sense of purpose to support the Hospice plus a feeling of adding value and being needed.”

You don’t need any retail experience for this role, full training will be provided.

Ideally, you’ll be able to commit to regularly volunteer for at least 4 hours per week.

We have plenty of volunteering opportunities available in our retail stores. Please get in touch with us today to find a store and shift that works for you. Our retail teams can’t wait to welcome you on-board!

To become a Charity Shop Assistant Volunteer, please get in touch with our Volunteer Officer today by emailing volunteer@cityhospice.org.uk

Cover Support Retail Heroes

If you’re unable to commit to a regular volunteering role as a Charity Shop Assistant, could you help us with cover relief on an ad-hoc basis? You’ll receive full training in readiness to help out at a local store and become one of our Retail Hero’s who we call upon to help keep our shops running smoothly.

To become a Cover Support Retail Hero, please get in touch with our Volunteer Officer today by emailing volunteer@cityhospice.org.uk

Collections Volunteers

Could you spare an hour or two to support Cardiff’s local hospice with a local bucket collection?

We have some exciting venues and are looking for volunteers to help support these collections to help raise vital funds for City Hospice. Collections take place during the week and can often take place on weekends.

To become a Collections Volunteer, please email volunteer@cityhospice.org.uk

Collection Box Coordinators

Collection Box Coordinators drop off and collect our charity collection boxes across Cardiff. Volunteers can also help source new venues to hold boxes. This role is fully flexible, working whatever hours and time commitment suits you.

If you are a sociable person with good networking skills and an outgoing personality then this is the volunteer role for you. You must be aged 18 or over and have your own transport. Local knowledge of the Cardiff area would be an advantage.

To become a Collection Box Coordinator, please email volunteer@cityhospice.org.uk

Events volunteers

Could you spare an hour or two to support Cardiff’s local hospice at our future events?

We’re always looking for volunteers to support our events and volunteer roles normally include:

  • Registering event participants when they arrive
  • Selling hospice merchandise
  • Marshalling routes
  • Selling raffle tickets

If you’re interested in one of the above roles and supporting our events, please email volunteer@cityhospice.org.uk . You can do this as a one off role if you see an event that you’re interested in, and even bring along a friend or family member to help too!

Community Leafleting Volunteers

Can you help spread the word about City Hospice and help us to distribute our leaflets and posters in the local community? Perhaps you’re looking for a healthy way to support a worthwhile cause and regular exercise takes your interest. We’re looking for reliable volunteers to help us in this brand new role. This is a very flexible opportunity that can be undertaken as and when it’s convenient for you. Being able to drive would be an advantage but is not essential.

To become a City Hospice Community Leafleting Volunteer, please get in touch with our Volunteer Officer today by emailing volunteer@cityhospice.org.uk

Future Volunteering Opportunities

Patient Drivers

Patient Drivers support with City Hospice’s day centres by transporting patients to and from their homes to our hospice in Whitchurch. Our patients are based across the city and often need support with transport to attend on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. By using your own car to transport our patients, you’ll be enabling them to socialise with other people, receive complementary therapies, and have some much-needed entertainment.

Our patient groups run Tuesday and Thursday between 1:30pm and 3:30pm, with patients coming from across the city.

Some of our volunteers have shared with us why they enjoy being a patient volunteer driver:

Kevin tells us “I find volunteering for City Hospice such a rewarding experience. I really look forward to seeing our patients and listening to their stories. I volunteer because City Hospice provided such great care to my wife and I want to give something back so the charity can continue to support those who need it in the local community”

Derek says “The Hospice has a need and I have a car and it’s lovely to volunteer for such a great Charity”

Nick tells us “I volunteer at City Hospice to give something back to the Community”

To register your interest to become a 2021 Patient Driver, please email volunteer@cityhospice.org.uk

Volunteering for students

We know how important work experience can be for university students which is why we’re always on the lookout for those who have something to give to City Hospice. Whether it’s getting experience with our fundraisers, helping our Marketing Manager with social media or graphic design or helping in one of our charity shops, there’s something worthwhile to go on your CV. If you want to lend a hand and give some time to Cardiff’s local hospice, please email volunteer@cityhospice.org.uk
