About the Candidate

My name is Victoria Powney (she/her), I’m 21 years old from South Wales and currently studying Sport and Exercise Science at the undergraduate level. Throughout my time at university, I have been an active member of the Cardiff Met community. For example, Chairlady of Cardiff Met BUCS Netball and SES Course Rep. This allowed me to express my opinions on the university and life of students and give them a voice on how they feel about their time within university. I have been a dedicated sports enthusiast for many years training in Tang Soo Do Karate for over 16 years and also being a part of Pontardawe Netball Club for over 8 years. I believe everyone should have a voice to be able to speak their opinion on matters that influence them and their everyday lives no matter the significance.

This Candidates Priorities

  1. Re-vamping of the parking and housing process - Working with the admissions process to better understand the needs of students to accommodate them to create a more positive environment. Priority parking for students who need their cars desperately to decrease the volume of cars on campus daily. Car-sharing rewards can be put in place to influence students to come to campus together.

  2. Student mental health and well-being - Continuing the push for support for all students across campuses to prioritize a positive experience and a safe place to be able to express feelings. With the stressful life of the university, students should be able to express all concerns to professionals and know there is always an option available to them no matter the circumstance.

  3. Creating social opportunities for students – Students should have a place to feel comfortable in their chosen social environment within the university. Societies across campuses should be able to interact and promote inclusivity for all students from both campuses. Steps should be taken to increase the diversity of societies and allow a positive mental health movement.

Candidates Concluding Thoughts

Cardiff Metropolitan University should be a place where everyone should be able to feel welcome and enjoy their time here as I have been lucky enough to do.
