Viva Salsa!

Last week saw the SU host our first Viva Salsa event in aid of Breast Cancer Care Cymru, Cancer Research Wales and the Lord Mayors Charity, Velindre Cancer Centre. The night was a huge success and raised over £300 for these fantastic causes so a big thank you to everyone who came and showed their support!

The night kicked off with a salsa masterclass, taken by Andy Power, who kindly donated his time and amazing skills to teach us the basics of the Salsa dance. About 40 people took part in the class, and with the cocktails and Sangria flowing, the dancing continued long after the class had finished.

A raffle was held which helped to boost the funds that we raised. Raffle prizes included sets of tickets for the Cardiff Blues, vouchers for Giovanni’s Restaurant, John Lewis Vouchers, Spa sets, a Christmas hamper and more!

The event was organised by students Chloe McDonnell and Chelsea Cinquegrani, as part of the Epic Events competition;

Chelsea explained “Chloe and I had no idea how the event was going to turn out and whether Salsa was something that would appeal to students but we were pleasantly surprised. Everyone told us how much they had enjoyed themselves and I think a huge thank you needs to go to Andy for providing such an entertaining masterclass, we were all in fits of laughter! We will definitely be hosting more Viva Salsa events and hope to grow them into well-established events.”

The SU will be hosting more events like this one, and if you think you could plan an event that raises money for charity, enter our Epic Events competition and be in with the chance of winning £500!
